Road Industry Descends on Lansing
Urges Lawmakers to Take Action on Transportation Funding

Lansing, Mich. – Hundreds of road builders, union members, engineers and county road officials from across Michigan drove to Lansing while dodging potholes to attend the Michigan Transportation Team’s Lobby Day today in Lansing.

The focus of the event at the Capitol was to draw legislators' attention to the need for adequate long-term road funding.  Rocky Road ice cream was distributed to lawmakers, who also viewed displays that highlighted the location of poor roads and bridges throughout the state.

“We saw this as a great opportunity to engage the members of the Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) in the legislative process,” said Mike Nystrom, co-chair of MTT and executive vice president of the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association (MITA). “These are the people who are directly affected by the road funding debate that has been going on far too long in Lansing.”

Nystrom added that the time has come to find a transportation funding solution now.  “Doing nothing is not an option,” he said.

The Michigan Transportation Team (MTT) is a broad-based, bipartisan partnership of business, labor, local government, associations and citizens with the common goal of improving Michigan’s transportation infrastructure.  MTT is committed to promoting the development and maintenance of a safe, convenient and efficient transportation network that serves the public, private and economic needs of Michigan.  For more information on transportation funding, visit http://justfixtheroads.com/.
