Within the past two weeks Michigan drivers have reported more than 650 potholes to an online registry.

Most of those potholes are Metro Detroit, according to the statewide listing at The website is sponsored by the Michigan Infrastructure and Transportation Association, which represents the construction industry and suppliers. The site was set up to warn motorists about the location of the worst of the jarring chuckholes.

Since it went live Feb. 14, the five counties with the most pothole complaints are Wayne (311), Oakland (90), Washtenaw (53), Kent 40 and Macomb (36).

"The sheer number of pothole reports says loud and clear that Michigan drivers are fed up with road conditions and the lack of state funding to fix them," MITA Executive Vice President Mike Nystrom said.

"State, county and local road agencies are doing the very best they can with the limited funding available — now it's time for state legislators to step up and find a funding solution."

Driver submitted pothole locations are mapped on the website, along with photos and driver comments, including: From a Wayne County driver: "I've lived here for over 15 years and can't believe this state can't take care of its roads. Other states have similar weather, not the same driving conditions." In Oakland County: "A couple of huge potholes that folks try to swerve and avoid heading north on Coolidge just as you cross Big Beaver." In Washtenaw County: "Four people got flat tires and we had to replace the rim as well as the tire on Interstate 94 westbound just before U.S. 23."County road commissions have also set up pothole hotlines. In Wayne, call (888) 762-3273, Oakland, (248) 858-4804, Macomb, (586) 463-8671 and Livingston, (517) 546-4250.

The Michigan Department of Transportation has also established a toll free hotline at (888) 296-4546.
