In two weeks, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) will make available almost $60 million of State Revolving Fund loans for this year’s third quarter projects. The money will go to the communities on the already-approved Preferred Priority List (PPL) so that they can begin work within 60 days. Two of the larger jobs are sewer projects exceeding $10 million in Genesee and Leelanau counties.

Fourth quarter loans, which will be announced in a few months, are expected to be a whopping $500 million. The Detroit and Dearborn projects will amount to about half of that total, with the work starting in the quarter but taking several years to complete.

As previously reported on this web site, MITA anticipates continued strong demand for water projects in FY 2008. MDEQ estimates drinking water projects may be increased slightly next year, but a fairly dramatic increase is expected in wastewater projects. The ’08 drinking water PPL list should become available at the end of June, while the wastewater PPL list should be available in early August. MITA will keep you updated as these lists become available.
